Potentiation by Hypoxia of Contractions

چکیده
Background and Purpose: Hypoxia alters the responsiveness to endogenous substances of cerebral arteries, possibly resulting in the modulation of blood supply to ischemic brain regions. The present study was undertaken to analyze the mechanism of potentiation by hypoxia of angiotensin ll-induced cerebroarterial contractions. Methods: Monkey and dog cerebral arterial strips with endothelium were suspended for isometric tension recording in Ringer-Locke solution aerated with 95% 02-5% CO2 (partial 02 pressure, 570-600

Effects of hypoxia and hypercapnia on the force-velocity relation of rabbit myocardium.
The separate effects of hypoxia and hypercapnia on the force-velocity relation of rabbit myocardium were compared in 10 papillary or trabecular muscles superfused using control (95% O2-5% CO2), hypoxic (18% O2), and hypercapnic (20% CO2) physiological salt solutions. This level of hypoxia did not irreversibly damage the muscles and reduced peak isometric force by 53 +/- 11%. The level of hyperc...
متن کاملDepressant effects of hypoxia and hypoglycaemia on neuro-effector transmission of guinea-pig intestine studied in vitro with a pharmacological model.
1. Since intermittent ischaemia may play an important role in the aetiology of Inflammatory Bowel Disease, particularly Crohn's Disease, a pharmacological model of neuronal ischaemia was applied to guinea-pig isolated intestinal preparations to mimic the acute effects of reduced blood flow on intestinal motility. 2. Neuro-effector transmission and smooth muscle performance were examined in myen...
متن کاملInteraction between tetanus long-term potentiation and hypoxia-induced potentiation in the rat hippocampus.
Interaction between tetanus long-term potentiation and hypoxia-induced potentiation in the rat hippocampus. J. Neurophysiol. 78: 2475-2482, 1997. The interaction between tetanus-induced long-term potentiation (LTP) and hypoxia-induced potentiation was investigated by performing extracellular recordings in the CA1 region of rat hippocampus using a two-pathway design. Hippocampal slices were plac...
متن کاملEndothelin-1 potentiates cholinergic nerve-mediated contraction in human isolated bronchus.
That endothelin-1(ET-1) plays a mediator role in asthma is consistent with reports of ET-1-induced potentiation of cholinergic nerve-mediated contraction in airways from various animal species. This study examined the effect of ET-1 on cholinergic contractions in human isolated bronchus. Macroscopically nondiseased human bronchial tissue was obtained from 23 patients with respiratory tumours. A...
متن کاملPostactivation potentiation in a human muscle: effect on the rate of torque development of tetanic and voluntary isometric contractions.
Postactivation potentiation (PAP), a mechanism by which the torque of a muscle twitch is increased following a conditioning contraction, is well documented in muscular physiology, but little is known about its effect on the maximal rate of torque development and functional significance during voluntary movements. The objective of this study was to investigate the PAP effect on the rate of isome...
